How it all began...

So you’re wondering, “Why is it Cake or Death?”, or—like many people—just don’t get it. Well as a big fan of Eddie Izzard and extreme baker herself, Kristin related to one of his comedy skits on a whole different level. A light bulb lit up for her as she realized the importance of cake to her—it was either Cake or Death. She chose Cake.

Cake or Death was created out of a love for creating edible art. Tired of working a "normal" job, Kristin Peres started Cake or Death full-time after years of making amazing cakes on the side for friends and family. She realized that just because a job is necessary in life doesn’t mean it can’t be something you enjoy. And she really, really enjoys making cakes. Not just any cakes though—cakes that blow your preconceived notions of cake away!

The Artist

Kristin Peres has been creating cakes for over five years. She learned from experts in the Greater Toronto Area at Golda’s Kitchen, George Brown College, and McCall’s School of Cake Decorating. She has also had the pleasure of learning from two top artists in the U.S., Colette Peters and Bronwen Weber.

Kristin takes pride in the detail of her work and loves achieving a creative twist on traditional cake ideas. A truly creative person, she enjoys the challenge sculpting cakes into anything imaginable presents—from beer bottles to trophies to intricate tiaras, all edible! Inspired by music, fashion, pop culture, and other great cake designers, she hopes to inspire you with your custom piece of art.
